Luna was planning the revolution long before she became Nightmare Moon the first time. She noticed the tyranny of Celestia long before then. So she hatched a plan to rebel. She would distract Celestia by becoming Nightmare Moon while the (old) Lunar Republic would slowly put into place its pawns to overthrow the government and free Equestria from Celestia's tyranny. This is a scene from the amazing fic Background Pony [link] by ~shortskirtsxplosions

If you haven't read it, go read it. Seriously. Just go read it. I have so many scenes from it I want to draw, but some of them I don't think I could ever get out of my imagination and onto the canvas because they're so spectacular.

I guess I ought to offer a bit of explanation for this one. I'll try not to spoil it though, so sorry for the vagueness.
Basically, in the fic, Lyra is cursed so that all ponies forget her. As soon as she leaves a pony's presence, they completely forget her (Sometimes sooner) In the chapter this is from, she fell in love with a stallion and eventually had to come to grips with the fact that it could never be. Near the end of the chapter, it all climaxes to this scene. The hotel in town is being demolished, and due to several things that Lyra indirectly caused, a small colt wanders into the blast area after the countdown has begun. The stallion Lyra fell in love with runs out to save him, but faints. Lyra comes in and saves the day with her protection spell, but barely.
